What This Show Actually Is

Comedy hypnosis is the ultimate improv show. Completely live, completely original, completely one of a kind every single night.

There is no script. There is no cast. There are no rehearsals. Every performance is determined entirely by the volunteers who take the stage on that specific night. Because no two people respond to hypnosis identically, no two performances are ever the same. The show your audience sees on Friday night could never have existed on Thursday. That's not a marketing claim. It's the fundamental mechanics of how this works.

Comedy hypnosis is pure improv comedy starring your audience. The performer orchestrates. The audience performs. The result is live, hysterical, spontaneous comedy improv that is simultaneously mesmeric and completely original every single time. It's the only improv show where the cast is whoever shows up.

He was funny, engaging and I personally enjoyed getting hypnotized!

This is the show that sells itself through word of mouth before the curtain comes down. Audience members who experienced it on Friday bring three people back on Saturday. That organic, genuine repeat engagement is what separates a real theatrical draw from a one-night novelty.

The Performing Arts World

Dark nights filled. New audiences through your doors. The conversation every presenter is already having.

Performing arts organizations, from well-funded major PACs to small community theaters running on grants and dedication, share a common set of pressures: filling seats consistently, attracting audiences who don't already subscribe, and programming a season that gives people a reason to keep coming back.

A comedy hypnosis and improv show addresses all three simultaneously. It fills dark nights that might otherwise go unused. It brings in first-time visitors and sends them home as advocates for your venue. And because every performance is genuinely original, it creates repeat attendance within a single run that most theatrical programming simply cannot.

For season programmers: adding this show to a season that already includes dance, classical music, and theater gives your subscriber base something genuinely unexpected, and gives your marketing team a story that's easy to tell and even easier to share.

For community theaters: the modular format means it works in your space, with your technical setup, at your budget level. The show scales to what you have, from a clean solo performance to a full theatrical production.

For independent producers: this show sells itself. Live, unscripted, completely original. No two performances are the same. That is a compelling reason to buy a ticket, and it is the truth. We work with independent producers on format, run length, and production scale to ensure the show matches the ticket price and the venue.

It turned out to be one of our biggest turnouts of the season as people were excited to see the show.

Production & Format

From a solo performer to a complex production. We scale with your venue, your vision, and your budget.

A 200-seat community theater gets a polished solo performance: one performer, professional wireless audio, complete technical coordination. A 1,500-seat performing arts center gets opening acts, stage assistants, live musicians for the hypnotic induction sequence, custom staging, smoke, and theatrical lighting design. Every configuration between those two endpoints is available.

The show runs anywhere from 90 minutes to three hours with intermission. Single-night ticketed performance, multi-night run, weekday dark night fill, weekend headline. The format is built around what your programming calendar needs. Midweek bookings are available and often the smartest entry point for venues exploring this show for the first time.

Regional touring and routing are available for presenters coordinating across a circuit. Connecting bookings as part of a multi-stop routing run reduces travel logistics and results in better availability and scheduling efficiency for everyone.

Justin James brought a lot of energy to the crowd and was very fluid at keeping the pace up and people engaged. It was a huge success.

Hypnotic Improv Workshops

Learn the art. Expand your mind. Workshops available for anyone. No show required.

Comedy hypnosis improv workshops are available as a completely standalone booking. No main stage show required. The format is open to anyone: professional performers expanding their improv skills, acting students exploring the psychology of suggestion and stage presence, drama departments seeking something genuinely different, or general public audiences who want to experience the art form up close.

For performing arts organizations, workshops create an additional revenue opportunity and a deeper community engagement touchpoint. A workshop on a Saturday afternoon paired with an evening performance creates a full-day event serving different audiences at different price points, and introduces new people to your venue who might not otherwise attend.

For drama departments and acting conservatories: a workshop on the psychology of suggestion, responsiveness, and stage presence offers students something no traditional improv class covers. The principles behind hypnotic performance, reading an audience, calibrating delivery in real time, creating conditions where people willingly follow direction, are foundational performance skills that transfer directly to any stage work.

For general public audiences: a ticketed workshop is a standalone event that draws curious first-timers who might not attend a full evening show. It introduces new people to your venue, creates a low-barrier entry point for community engagement, and gives attendees a participatory experience they talk about long after they leave.

Workshop content is customized to the group in the room. A session for acting conservatory students looks entirely different than a public workshop for curious first-timers. The format adapts. The instruction is always genuine. The experience is always memorable.

Fundraising for the Performing Arts

Professional fundraising services for the performing arts. We raise millions for charity, and we believe in this mission deeply.

Justin James is a firm believer in the performing arts. The organizations that keep theater, music, and live performance alive in communities across the country do essential work, and they deserve benefit nights that actually deliver. Our professional fundraising services are built for exactly this.

Benefit nights and donor galas built around our programming consistently outperform traditional gala entertainment because the audience is genuinely engaged. When people are laughing, they are present. When they are present, they give. The energy of a great live performance creates exactly the conditions that make a fundraising ask land, and our professional auctioneering services are built to capitalize on that moment.

These services are available as a completely standalone booking. No main stage show required. Benefit nights, donor galas, development events: the format is built around what your organization needs to accomplish. We work with theater companies, arts education programs, community cultural organizations, and performing arts centers across the country.

Our overall experience with Justin and his company was great. Justin and his Marketing Director Katie stayed in contact to ensure a successful event.

Professional Standards

30 years. 10,000+ shows. The same professional standard every single time.

When a performing arts organization puts their name behind a performance, they're putting their reputation behind it. We understand that. Every engagement begins with thorough pre-production coordination: technical advance, rider review, crew coordination, and content confirmation specific to your venue and audience. We arrive prepared, work seamlessly with your production team, and deliver the same quality performance whether it's a midweek dark night or the Saturday headline of your season.

Since 2008, Justin James has led the charge on professional standards in stage hypnosis through Safe On Stage, the industry's only nationwide safety training program for stage hypnosis performers. Every show adheres to these standards without exception. Full professional liability insurance is carried on every engagement. Certificates of insurance available to contracted clients upon request.

For Presenters, Producers & Venue Directors

Questions We Hear Most

How does this show fit into a performing arts season?
Comedy hypnosis and improv works as a standalone headline or as a complement to a season that already includes dance, theater, and classical music. It brings in audiences who don't typically attend performing arts events and sends your existing subscribers home with a story they didn't expect to have. It functions as the high-energy, populist offering that broadens your audience base without compromising your programming quality.
Can this be ticketed and sold as a standalone show?
Yes, and it's built for exactly that. Independent producers have a natural marketing story: live, unscripted, completely original. No two performances are the same. That's a compelling reason to buy a ticket, and it's the truth. We work with independent producers on format, run length, and production scale to ensure the show matches the ticket price and the venue.
What does the production rider look like?
The rider scales with the format. A solo performance needs professional wireless microphone, house sound access, basic stage lighting, and performance space for volunteers. A full theatrical production has a detailed rider covering live audio, lighting design, special effects, and crew coordination. All requirements are provided well in advance and coordinated directly with your technical director. No surprises on load-in day.
Is this appropriate for a sophisticated performing arts audience?
Yes, and a sophisticated audience is often the most rewarding to perform for. The comedy comes from genuine human behavior in unexpected situations, which is universally compelling regardless of how many Broadway productions an audience member has seen. Content is G through PG-13. Nobody walks out uncomfortable. Everybody walks out with a story.
What about midweek and dark night bookings?
Midweek bookings are available and often the smartest entry point for venues exploring this show for the first time. A Tuesday or Wednesday performance fills a night that would otherwise sit dark, introduces your audience to something genuinely original, and creates the word-of-mouth that supports a full weekend run in a future season.
Can you do workshops separate from the main show?
Yes. Hypnotic improv workshops are available as a completely standalone booking. Open to anyone: performers, acting students, drama departments, or the general public. A workshop paired with an evening performance creates a full-day event at multiple price points and introduces new audiences to your venue.
Do you offer fundraising services for performing arts organizations?
Yes. This is a standalone offering completely separate from whether you book the show. Our professional fundraising services are designed for organizations that need to raise real money: benefit nights, donor galas, development events. We've helped organizations raise millions across the country. Contact us to talk through what that looks like for your organization.
Is touring or regional routing available?
Yes. Regional touring and routing are available for presenters coordinating across a circuit. Connecting bookings as part of a multi-stop routing run reduces travel logistics and results in better scheduling efficiency for everyone. Reach out with your dates and we'll talk through what routing looks like.
How far in advance should we book?
For season programming, 6 to 12 months in advance ensures the best availability. For single-night and benefit performances, 3 to 6 months is typically sufficient. For midweek and dark night bookings, timelines are more flexible. If you have a date coming up quickly, call us directly. We'll tell you what's available.
